Course Details

Engaging with nature allows us to deeply nourish and enhance the health of our body, mind and spirit in ways that are life supportive and regenerative. Plants communicate with us in healing and energetic ways that bring us a sense of place and knowing.  They gently lead our bodies into balance through our natural affinity for plant medicine that has spanned thousands of years.

Level One covers foundational concepts such as:
Foundations of Herbalism & Nutrition
Herb Energetics
Medicine Making
Elements- Fire, Earth, Air, Water
Ayurveda
Medical Astrology
Body Systems: Liver, Digestive, Nervous, Cardiovascular
Study of 45 Herbs- includes a sample of each herb in dried or tincture form

This course is being taught ONLINE VIA ZOOM and IN PERSON in HAMPTON, NB.

Time Commitment
-Classes begin on September 25th, 2025 and will be completed by September 17, 2026 with a total of 32 classes online or 16 in person.  
-The ONLINE classes will be on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8:30pm.  Click here to see the ONLINE tentative schedule.
-The IN PERSON classes will be one Saturday a month from 10am-3pm.  Click here to see the IN PERSON tentative schedule. 
-Attendance is highly encouraged to ensure learning outcomes are achieved.  Each class will be recorded and posted to the classroom.
-Total instruction hours for the program equals 120 in-classroom hours.
-Additional home study will be required to succeed at the learning outcomes and goals and is estimated at 150 hours.
-There is a home learning component to this program to achieve the learning outcomes, total hours for this program are estimated at 270 hours.

Course Requirements
-Participants of the program who wish to gain a certificate of completion for Level One of the Roots of Health program are required to complete a monthly quiz or assignment and submit a final project within the due date provided.  
-To successfully complete the program, it is necessary to participate in a minimum of three mentorship sessions with Tatum. These sessions provide an excellent opportunity to ask questions and acquire more information
-A certificate of completion is required to enroll in Level Two of the Roots of Health program.

TOTAL COST OF THE PROGRAM: $640 + HST

Course Curriculum

Tatum Andrews

Tatum studied to become a CGA and spent over 10 years working in this field with companies focused on manufacturing natural health products. When her son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, she decided it was time to study holistic nutrition so she could better understand its role in overall health. She attended the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition where she graduated as an RHN, and now teaches their herb course. This program sparked her interest in herbalism. She has completed the Practical Herbalist, Master Herbalist and Clinical Herbalist programs with Wild Rose College, and has also studied at the Dominion Herbal College, Evolutionary School of Herbalism, Dogwood School of Botanical Medicine, Eclectic School of Herbalism and with Gail Faith Edwards, Colleen Emery, Chanchal Cabrera, and many other great herbalists.

Tatum is a Registered Herbal Practitioner with the Herbalist Association of New Brunswick, the current President and a founding member. She is a board member of the Canadian Council of Herbalists Associations. Tatum stewards land in NB where she focuses on farming, wildcrafting, medicine making, teaching, and a little accounting on the side! She has a small clinical practice.
